MISSION

ZEBRA's mission is to advance transit agencies’ capacity for zero-emission bus (ZEB) adoption through information exchange, training programs, shared research, and public education. ZEBRA meetings are designed to help connect transit to state-of-the-art ZEB practices and reflect ZEB interests as a collective voice.

History

The Zero-Emission Bus Resource Alliance is a professional association that began in 2015 for transit agencies to come together and share lessons learned about zero-emission technologies. Founders envisioned ZEBRA as a group for transit leaders to share experiences and organize them without manufacturers or outside groups.

Today, the ZEBRA association gathers over 70 transit agencies to quarterly meetings where we share technical presentations around industry concepts and member ZEB deployment updates. Additionally, members have access to the membership portal, which hosts new resources, policy goals, member ZEB and infrastructure information, and our ZEB database.

ZEBs Require Planning: What ZEBRA Can Do for You

No two ZEBRA members are alike. Agencies that have joined come from every corner of the country, with a wide variety of fleet sizes and zero-emission buses purchased and in service. A primary rallying point ZEBRA members join behind is the emphasis on ZEB planning and preparation. There is a lot of research and planning that comes with deploying these advanced technologies to ensure you get the most out of your transit agency’s purchase.

Many ZEBRA members have deployed and currently operate a number of battery electric and fuel cell electric buses. Other members who are new to the ZEB space learn from early adopters on best practices in bus deployment and maintenance, such as smart charging infrastructure and fuel cell maintenance and safety. ZEBRA members share ZEB advice and lessons learned between each other to create a stronger and more informed transit community.

ZEBRA members have access to cutting-edge research on ZEB technology – such as smart charging, bus procurement advice, and rate and route modeling education. The group not only has relationships with transit agencies, but with experienced utility companies and research groups working alongside agencies currently making their ZEB transition.

Membership for transit agencies is not exclusive to the experts. Every ZEBRA member, regardless of where they are in the process of ZEB deployment, is a value added to the group and is encouraged to join.
